A General Practitioner with an office-based practice in Nanaimo since 2014, after migrating from England where she had worked as a GP for about 20 years. She also trained in Public Health Medicine for 5 years after training as a GP, which gave her experience in Health Authority-based committee work, project work and health care needs assessment. She learned about the political nature of state-funded health care and its effects on services and the personnel working within the system. During her subsequent UK GP career, she was active in teaching medical students and GP residents, an examiner for the Royal College of GPs and worked for the local health authority as a GP appraiser and latterly as a medical director. She has a special interest in seniors care which has blossomed since she came to Nanaimo and which led her to become one of the original members of the Residential Care Initiative working group with the Nanaimo Division. She is a MRP for around 80 long term care residents and runs an on-site clinic for patients at a local independent living complex. She is also one of the local providers of medically assistance in dying.
