Central Island Physician Career Opportunities

Please contact our Recruitment and Retention Coordinator, Sharon Toddfor information on the area, clinic tours, introductions, and a lowdown on all things Central Island.  She would be happy to make all of your arrangements for you!

As part of the central island region, Central Island enjoys the benefit of airport and ferry services both to the north and south, within a 30-minute drive in each direction.  Central Island residents enjoy the safety and security of quieter, quaint community living, mountain vistas, lakeside communities and warm, calm beaches facing the Georgia Strait - take your pick!

We are considered rural communities, so our region offers recruitment incentives to physicians who live and work in the area.  An older population in our beautiful beachside communities means that practicing here, in addition to Island Health's rural fee top-ups and incentives, also results in significantly higher MSP billings per visit (37% of our population being in the 65+ age demographic).   Looking for more work/life balance?  Parksville and Qualicum Beach have an on-call rota is only about 1 day/month, and without a hospital in the immediate community (Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is 30 minutes south), you can practice during the day, and still have ample time for your own family and pursuits.  Wanting to keep those Emergency Medicine skills sharp?  Port Alberni has the West Coast General Hospital, where family physicians also have the opportunity to work ER shifts at the hospital.  With the most affordable real estate on the island, Port Alberni is an extremely attractive area to practice medicine.

Are you new to BC?  Here are some great resources to help you on your way to setting up a medical practice here.

Establishing your medical practice in Qualicum Beach, Parksville or Port Alberni

Open your practice, and create your new life, in a place where nature will nurture your spirit. In a place where your children can still climb trees and play ball hockey in the street. Where your downtime is enshrined and sacred. And where buying a home is still affordable enough to allow you to breathe that fresh sea air.
