New Westminster

New Wesminster - nicknamed the Royal City since it was named by Queen Victoria in 1859 - has many vibrant and beautiful neighbourhoods. It is a city of diversity, located perfectly in the centre of Greater Vancouver, only 20 minutes by skytrain or car to Vancouver, and a quick commute to neighbours Burnaby, Coquitlam, and Surrey.

Neighbourhoods of New West

Brewery District

What is old is new again – this holds particularly true for New Westminster’s Brewery District neighbourhood.

More than 150 years ago, a group of British military engineers called Sappers set up camp where the majestic Fraser River splits north and south to survey land that would briefly become the capital of British Columbia.  Though New Westminster lost the provincial government to Victoria by 1862, the area had quickly become home to two critical city-building institutions – the Royal Columbian hospital and the Saperton Brewery. The brewery eventually shut down in 2005 but the hospital remains and now, in its place, on the nine-acre former brewery site, a dynamic, master-planned community has emerged with all the services and amenities needed for living, working, dining and shopping.
