Victoria Divisions of Family Practice

Dr Katharine McKeen - Co-chair

Very soon after joining the Victoria Division of Family Practice in 2012, Dr. McKeen realized its incredible potential to be a catalyst for improving the lives of physicians and patients. She sees how Divisions are working together, across the province and with local partners, to solve complicated health system problems, to improve access to patient care and to make it easier to practice here in Victoria. The Division creates meaningful opportunities for our physician members to work together, and it is creating positive and sustainable changes to our health system.

Dr. McKeen’s sense of purpose is driven by her love of providing primary patient care, her deep commitment to serving her community, and the fulfilment that comes from working as part of a team. Balancing patient care and “system thinking” drew to her interest to the Care of the Elderly Working Group and TORCH physician; her love of the work quickly led her to be the co-chair of the RCI Initiative and Medical Coordinator at the Heights at Mt. View. The collective experience was the driver to completing an MBA in 2018.

In addition to leading the VDFP, Dr. McKeen is co-chair of the Collaborative Services Committee and the Inter-divisional (Vancouver Island) PCN Steering Committee. She is a member of the provincial Stroke, Arthritis, Heart Failure and Clear-BC initiatives, and a member of the Doctors of BC Awards Committee.

Dr. McKeen is looking forward to another year on the Board of the VDFP, as we continue to build excellent primary care here in Victoria.
